Baramulla, Jan 07 (KNO): The Yamberzalwari road in north Kashmir's Sopore remains in a deplorable state since 2002, causing immense hardships for locals, with the residents alleging persistent neglect from authorities. Speaking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the villagers said that Yamberzalwari—home to nearly 2,000 people, depends heavily on the road for daily commutes, medical emergencies and economic activities, however, it is facing the official neglect, who have failed to repair the vital link despite repeated pleas. “We have been suffering for over two decades now. During rains, the road becomes a muddy mess and in winter, it’s nearly impassable,” said Wazir Mohammad Lone, a local resident. Another resident, Mohammad Subhan Malik, expressed his frustration; saying their children face difficulties reaching school while patients can’t be taken to hospitals on time. “Why are our pleas ignored?” Malik questioned. He said that they themselves repaired the 9 kilometre stretch (Harwan - Yamberzalwari) several times, since the road was constructed, which is questionable. Residents, however, urged the authorities to prioritize its repair and ensure their long-overdue relief. Meanwhile, officials stated that the road is currently under the jurisdiction of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) but will soon be transferred to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). “Once the transfer is complete, the work on repairing and upgrading the road will commence,” an official assured. He anticipated that the work on the road will start this year only, adding, that they are mulling to connect Yamberzalwari with Rampur Rajpora via Pahiwar—(KNO)
